Did you make a resolution this year? “I’m running 3 times a week” you said. “I’m losing this wobbly stomach of mine.” “This is the year I start my company.”
If you’re anything like me, the first 2 weeks are easy. I burn with the determination of reaching this promised land that will open as soon as I reach my goal. I find self-discipline easy, instant, effortless.
Then, around… about now, reality kicks in. It’s not as easy anymore. Temptation creeps in. I find myself just not motivated at times.
I miss a running session, I eat the chocolate, I skip working on the company for a day. My streak is not perfect anymore so it’s easier to miss again, eat again, not work again. Etc.
By Feb 15, that resolution of mine is a vague memory I don’t hold myself accountable to any longer.
Motivation is a feeling. It’s created by your thoughts.
Thinking “it doesn’t matter”, “it won’t make a difference”, “I don’t feel like it” creates permissiveness & discouragement.
Motivation comes from reconnecting daily to the reason you want your goal. Why it matters to you. Remind yourself that the discomfort of going running, eating broccoli or filing registration papers is EXACTLY what realizing your dreams feels like.
