Yup. Couldn’t agree more.
I say viewing things differently is key to reaching your goal. Some of my clients tell me positive thinking is idiotic; you can’t think positive about ANY circumstance; there ARE times when things just suck.
Circumstances do matter. It IS less hard to succeed when you’re affluent, healthy, with the approved skin color, gender... But let me tell you something: mindset eats circumstances for breakfast every morning. It’s just easier to have a great mindset when all around you believe about you what you want to believe about yourself.
I don’t advocate positive thinking. Our brains are poor at holding two opposite thoughts simultaneously. If you believe “I’m gonna fail”; when you force-think “success is inevitable” your subconscious rolls its eyes and says “yeah right. And the Pope’s my uncle.” It clings even harder to its fail thought.
Thinking forced positive ideas just reinforces whatever nasty one you had. Don’t do it!
I’m all about cultivating a USEFUL mindset. Thoughts that help you figure out the agency you have in a situation; beliefs that make you notice how it happens for you, not to you.
You’ll still have to take tons of action to get your result. But you’ll enjoy the ride.
